In my conclusion, we don't know whether Emmanuel Goldstein exists or not but he is surely alive as effect on Winston and other people in a different ways. I think Emmanuel Goldstein is Winston's idol as the anti - Party and one who worked to get freedom. But he is described as traitor for the Party members. He wrote the book about how different classes work and the meaning of the Party slogan. His political view and appearance resembles to Trosky. Leon Trosky is the guy who against the Stalin and he became a traitor then he expelled from the Soviet Union. And also he is compared as Osama bin Laden because no one knows whether he exists or not, where he is, what is he doing. These similar comparison makes more interesting about this character and deep into the question about him. From all these fact, it makes this character more mysterious. But he has been the great effect on Winston and the Party. That is something will never change as long as they are knowing what is he standing for. I think that's the great part of his existence in this book.
